Armoured Cable

Store

Armoured cable, metal braided wiring and protected electrical cable for vintage and early vehicle wiring systems.

This section includes steel-armoured and braided cable manufactured in-house, with single, twin, triple and four-core options, aluminium or brass bound outer finishes, and 8 amp, 16 amp and 27 amp capacities.

Used around exposed chassis wiring, dashboard installations, lamp wiring and engine bay looms where traditional protected cable is required.

Electrical - Cable - Armoured Help

During installation the outer braid should be carefully unwound to allow the wiring to be fitted. Temporarily binding the braid approximately 100mm back from the end will help prevent it loosening excessively during assembly.

Once the cable has been installed, the braid can be wound back into position to cover the outer casing and secured at the ends.

Traditionally this was finished using cotton whipping and varnish, although modern heat-shrink sleeving can also be used as a practical alternative.
